Boston vs LA, Who will win it all?

This is the series that NBA fans have been waiting for all playoffs. The two teams with the most championships of all time are going to compete for yet another banner to hang from the rafters. Since both Boston and LA won the conference finals in game 5, fatigue should not be a factor. There are no serious injuries on either team, so there should be no excuses. The game will have the MVP Kobe Bryant, arguably the best player in the game versus the Defensive Player of the Year in Kevin Garnett anchoring the best defensive team in Boston. If Boston wants to win they have to make sure their defense is consistent and most importantly, they HAVE to get Ray Allen scoring the ball. NO one can guard Kobe so Allen is going to have to put up points to negate some of Kobe’s points. KG and Pierce will be fine; Allen has to be the clutch shooter that he has always been. While Allen is mostly to blame for his shooting slump, his teammates need to make better passes to him while he is setting up to shoot. If Ray Allen shows up in the series, I see Boston winning in 7 games.

Hospitality and VMware

VMware since going public a couple of months ago as risen from a IPO of $29 dollars i believe to around $95 per share. While I myself did not invest in the company because i had no money to, i did advise some people who made out very well to say the least. I remember giving a presentation over a year ago about how virtualization and VMware in particular could be a disruptive technology in the future. While the future of virtualization is yet to be fully realized, people are literally buying into its potential as it is now the 3rd or 4th largest tech company behind i believe cisco, oracle, and Microsoft (don’t quote me on those). But, I believe one of the largest markets that virtualization has yet to tap into is the hospitality industry, and with good reasons. The hospitality industry is growing rapidly but has not yet hit the need for server consolidation and the many applications or services that can be provided by technology, which is not truly twinned into the market. When one looks at the work Microsoft is doing with Microsoft Surface and its impact on the hospitality industry, it is not hard to see that on the back end it is going need power and redundancy which is exactly what virtualization offers. While Microsoft still wants to have its own virtualization platform to compete with VMware and by giving other companies the rights to build upon their existing virtualization platform, i still foresee a venture between Microsoft and VMware. For their benefit, Microsoft that is, they better start considering the venture or they may miss out on the next wave of technology while companies like Cisco and Intel have already bought into the VMware software.

Technology and Change; The Hospitality Industry

The use of technology in the hospitality industry is growing! The hospitality industry is designed around the idea of giving the very best service to their consumers. The hospitality industry as defined by Encarta is businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and transport industries that serve people away from home. As all businesses become more global, the hospitality industry will continue to grow to accommodate the needs that arise. Technology will be at the heart of the future success of the industry. The more, easier, and enticing services that a single business such as a hotel can provide will determine it’s success. Technology will have to be provided to allow for this collaboration of services which is necessary based on the concepts that the hospitality industry is based on.

Technology and Change; The Beginning

Working with technology is a difficult path to go and is not for the complacent. In the tech industry you are either growing and evolving or dying. There is not much room for the middle ground. Does technology drive change or does change drive technology? By change, i mean the way something or someone goes about doing something in any aspect of industry. This is not an easy question nor is the answer. Does necessity drive the evolution/creation of new technology or is new technology just thought up? If necessity drives the evolution of technology, what is the biggest necessity in today’s society. I believe that technology and change is a two-way street, change drives technology but technology also drives change. If there is a necessity for something to change, then you can bet that the technology will be created to accommodate that necessity. On the other hand if technology is created, it may or may not become adoptive unless there is a necessity for that technology. Technology has influenced every industry from clothing to sports to social life. The hardest question is which industry has the necessity for change or new technology. Since i believe that the want to change drives technology more than the reverse, which industry is the most succumb to the want of change? This would become a much easier question if I was allowed to say that every industry has succumb to the want to change, which is probably true for the most part, and therefore the question is null. But I think that is taking the life out of a complex question for someone in the business of technology in industry. Lets chew on that for a while!!

Weather Maps becoming more personalized

The Weather Channel is going to provide interactive, detailed maps of local conditions, very local! They have partnered with Microsoft to deliver weather maps of not just major cities but neighborhoods of your home town. This has the potential to be a huge success for the Weather Channel’s website. No more guessing of how road condtions are for school districts, they can just look. Soon, you will probably be able to pull up a link on your desktop that will allow you to look at the weather outside, without actually looking outside. You could trace your route to work and see how the weather is along the way. Anything that can get more personalized, is going to get more personalized.

The future of Social Sites on the Web

Social sites such as MySpace.com, Facebook, Japan’s huge successful networking site Mixi and even YouTube.com are unquestionably one of the biggest trends on the internet in the past few years. They are only going to get bigger as they start to branch out to reach different cultures. MySpace is planning on making a push in the Japanese culture while Mixi is going to branch out to the US. With MySpace.com’s “all about me attitude” it may be hard to translate into the Japanese culture where they are not as aggressive as Americans. Japan’s social networking site Mixi is more subtle as you cannot even join unless invited by someone who is already a member. The question is why doesn’t someone create a social network that is customizable by each member? Well, actually there is one becoming popular that has this ability, Ning.com. In this social networking site users can create their own network via a blog, web page, watching video clips, or slideshows. Creates in October of 2004, Ning now serves over 30,000 social networks and growing. The versatility to create a network with little programming knowledge and a wide array of tools is something that I believe will set it apart in the future. The concept that Ning has of completely customizable social networking is the future of social networking.
